Anton Heren died from unspecified causes on 6th September, 1914, while in England. The 1st Cornwall Light Infantry battalion was part of 14 Brigade, 5th Division that had arrived in France in August, 1914 and had seen action at Mons and Le Cateau, the opening battles of the war or the British  It could have been that he was wounded in these early actions and then returned to England where he died ffrom wounds.
